Sardinia is famous for beaches and nature, but summer nights can be just as memorable. The island’s nightlife is spread across very different destinations: some are built around beach bars and clubs, others around old-town streets, restaurants and late aperitifs.
Cagliari offers the broadest year-round scene. The historic centre, Marina, Stampace and Villanova are filled with bars, wine spots and restaurants, while Poetto adds beachfront evenings, music and summer events.
Alghero and the north-west
Alghero combines a walkable historic centre with a long waterfront and a busy summer calendar. Evenings often start with dinner in the old town or along the bastions and continue around bars near the centre and seafront. The atmosphere is lively without losing the character of the Catalan-influenced city.
San Teodoro and Costa Smeralda
San Teodoro is one of the strongest choices for younger travelers in summer. Its centre fills with visitors after dark, while nearby beach venues and clubs extend the night well beyond dinner.
The Costa Smeralda, especially Porto Cervo and nearby resorts, offers a more exclusive version of Sardinian nightlife: elegant bars, high-end restaurants, beach clubs and famous venues that attract an international crowd in July and August.
Choosing the right base
Olbia works well for travelers who want a real town with access to the north-east coast, while smaller resorts can be better if the priority is a beach-first holiday with nightlife concentrated into the summer season.
The best destination depends on the kind of evening you want. Cagliari is the most complete, Alghero mixes atmosphere and history, San Teodoro is energetic and youthful, while the Costa Smeralda is the island’s luxury nightlife capital.
